Drink Count: 10 | Guilty Conscience

A. [Action: 915 Bilko Boulevard]

[Okay, so maybe he feels guilty for that whole trying to eat you thing last week. Crowley gets up early to make a Full English [breakfast] for April and Kyon. How he got his hands on black pudding is anybody's guess, but there it is. He serves up breakfast for three, seemingly pleased with the outcome.]

B. [Action: Olney's Tavern]

[Being bored is a bad thing for a demon with access to countless liters of alcohol. He's managed to get all the drones in the bar intoxicated enough to loosen up. Bar games are afoot! Crowley overseeing a freshly minted beer pong table and it's virgin game, making sure the drones are playing the game right. He's also managed to get a raucous game of Asshole started at the table near the middle of the bar.]

.[He shrugs a bit, mixing up another appletini for himself. Back home he drank these rarely, but it was always a favorite. He pours it into a glass and sips it. He concentrates on looking at the drink and it's colors as he offers his apology.]

Look, er... Sorry about... About biting you last week. Not being in control of myself isn't really a good enough excuse for making a mate lose his arm...

[One of Loki's eyebrows goes up. His idea was, they'd just accept that it was a thing that happened because of Mayfield and go on like normal.

He hadn't expected an apology.

Loki doesn't get those much.

He just looks at Crowley for a couple of long seconds...and then gives a shrug.]

Got it back, though, didn't I?

Don't worry about it. Happens in Mayfield all the time. There's nothing you or I can do about it.

[And he means it. Loki can deal with injuries -- he's had enough of them from people he considers friends that he doesn't let it get in the way of a cordial relationship. Insults are another matter, but as long as Crowley doesn't call him girly, they're good.]

[Crowley looks at him through his sunglasses for a long moment before nodding and smirking.]

I suppose you're right.

'Course I am.

[They're cool. Loki grins back and raises his drink in a toast, then knocks back about half of what's left. Briefly, he's serious --]

Gotta survive any way you can, you know? And here, that means taking circumstances into account before you run off mad for revenge.

[--and then he grins again, laughter in his voice.]

...I might bite you back sometime, though. When you least expect it.

[He snorts and knocks back about half of his own appletini.]

I suppose that's fair enough, Loki.

To good friends, good drinks, and Mayfield's peacetime.

[He starts mixing up something else, vodka, cherry brandy, ice, topped with cola. He pours that in a glass and sets it down by Loki's nearly empty appletini.]

None of which seem to last long enough.

That's the way of the world. Best to enjoy it while you can.

[Being friends with Crowley has been an education in the drinks the future holds. Back home, it was mead, ale, mead, beer, and sometimes mead to top it all off. The sheer variety of ways humans invent to get themselves drunk is something Loki finds truly admirable.]

Much agreed. You never know when you'll wake up one day in a hell hole like this.

Er... I kind of still hope this is all a bad dream.

[Loki picks up that second drink and looks at it pensively.]

If I'm dreaming, I don't want to wake up until the end. I'd take this over the cave any day.

... Yeah, I suppose you wouldn't.

For me though... Everything was going so well. The apocalypse had been averted, Aziraphale and I had been banned from messing about, so no work for us... We were even considering getting a little cottage together on the South Downs...

I just... I want to get back to my life.

[This is, in fact, the first time he's admit any of this to anyone outside of his own mind. And it's also something he's been dwelling on for quite a while.]

[Loki looks at Crowley for a moment. The god isn't one for sympathy or even pity. (Personally, he feels he has far more reason to pity himself than Crowley.) However, even he knows there are times when one must cheer up the friends you spend time with. He's about to say something like don't worry, she'll be there when you get back, or even I've heard of people who come back from being droned saying they'd gone home, when something Crowley's just said hits him.]

--wait, did you say someone averted the apocalypse?

[He pauses a moment and looks at Loki.]

Er, yes... Aziraphale and I sort of made a mess of it, but in the end we were able to help the Antichrist stop the apocalypse.

[He sets the drink back down firmly.]

Had it been foreseen, or just planned?

The Great Plan, actually. We knew it was going to happen and roughly when. I still wasn't ready to be handed the Antichrist. Things had only starter to get really interesting, you know?

But was it fated? Did anyone look into the future and see it happening?

[HE IS DEADLY SERIOUS. THIS IS IMPORTANT.]

Er, yeah. Some witch wrote a book of prophecy and mentioned it a few times.

And think the old bat knew we were going to avert it, too.

[Loki breathes out a sigh of relief. He wouldn't want his own apocalypse averted. That would mean he wouldn't be certain he would get out of Mayfield one day.]

Then I'm glad to hear it.

[He picks up his glass again and takes a drink.]

Don't worry, your girl will be there when you get back.

[Crowley looks decidedly puzzled by that last remark.]

Girl? What girl?

...

Wait...

[He narrows his eyes behind his sunglasses at Loki.]

Are you referring to Aziraphale?

[One eyebrow goes up.]

...she's not your girl? And you intend to live with her?

[He shakes his head. If they're not together, they will be soon, he thinks.]

Er... Aziraphale's not female, mate. More man-shaped, I'd say.

And we're just, er... Well, not exactly colleagues... Not exactly enemies... We're from opposite sides, but we've both been on Earth since the beginning.

You must be awfully close if you're moving in together.

[He's teasing you, Crowley. Expect no mercy.]

Well... Over 6,000 years of history. And not all of it was bad...

Took you long enough to make a move, then!

Move? I'm not trying to seduce him, you realize. He's just a friend.

[Deny it harder Crowley.]
